UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Saudi prisoners are performing the hajj ritual this year as part of an unprecedented reform campaign organized by the General Directorate of Prisons for 50 prisoners accompanied by 32 family members.
Campaign headquarters are indistinguishable from traditional pilgrimage sites. Prisoners do not wear prison uniforms and there are no apparent restrictions on their freedom of movement, nor can they be distinguished from accompanying prison directors.
“The main objective of the program is to rehabilitate, reintegrate, and motivate prisoners,” said Bandar bin Ali al-Kharmi, Director of Public Relations and Media at the General Directorate of Prisons.
“We found the perfect program through performing the Hajj and accompanied by their loved ones.”
The Prisons Directorate seeks to expand the number of beneficiaries during the coming Hajj seasons.
The Hajj program includes a range of preaching, cultural and recreational activities aimed at recreating the prisoner as well as spreading religious awareness through the Qur’an workshops and forensic science lessons.
One of the beneficiaries of the program (25 years) after finishing the ritual of throwing stoning “I am relieved of psychological well-being, and I thank everyone who contributed to our Hajj.
“I called that God facilitates our affairs and I called for my father and mother.”
The Hajj Prisoners’ Campaign comes within the framework of the “Thiqa” program for the rehabilitation of the prisoner before returning to society through specific activities in dedicated wards, cooperation between the public and private sectors in the implementation of its cultural, social and sports programs, as well as assisting the beneficiary in finding employment or joining an appropriate training program. Outside the prison.
“The program gave us a chance that a person changes himself and is better,” says another 35-year-old beneficiary with his mother.
“I prayed that my Lord facilitates my command and facilitates the matter of all Muslims and reconciles us to what he loves and satisfies.”
