Russian warships entered the Syrian port of Tartus

UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Russian warships Admiral Grigorovich and Orekhovo-Zuyevo have entered the Syrian port of Tartus, home of the Russian naval base, the REN television channel said on Monday.

Taken by TASS News, Alexei Orlov, commander of the ship Orekhovo-Zuyevo, told reporters that the main missions of the military vessels were to detect and escort foreign ships, as well as to demonstrate the Russian naval flag in the Mediterranean, adding besides the ships launched Kalibr cruise missiles at ground targets.

Equipped with the Kalibr missile system, the “Admiral Grigorovich” frigate of the Russian Black Sea Fleet has been developed in terms of her combat skills in Crimea. During the military exercises, the ship was able to retreat from the fictitious enemy’s shot and reach simulated targets.

“Admiral Grigorovich” is also equipped with the Shtil-1 self-defense missile system, 100 mm A-190 artillery gun, anti-aircraft artillery, rocket launcher and torpedoes. The frigate is also capable of carrying a Kamov Ka-27 military helicopter or a Ka-31 transport helicopter.

Orekhovo-Zuyevo is a multipurpose ship equipped with artillery, rockets, anti-aircraft and radio-technical defenses. It is also equipped with the Kalibr-NK missile system.
