UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Russia will not leave unanswered EU sanctions against the Russians in connection with the incident in the Kerch Strait, where in November last year, Ukrainian naval forces violated the Russian border and were detained, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

“The Russian side will not leave an unfriendly EU action unanswered,” the Russian Foreign Ministry website says in a comment regarding the EU’s decision to impose personal sanctions due to the incident in the Kerch Strait.

On November 25, three ships of the Ukrainian Navy violated the border of Russia, entered the temporarily closed water area of the territorial sea of the Russian Federation, and moved from the Black Sea to the Kerch Strait.

They maneuvered dangerously and did not submit to the legitimate demands of the Russian authorities.

The ships with 22 sailors and two employees of the SBU were detained, three of them were injured, they were hospitalized and received medical care, nothing threatens their lives.

A criminal case on the illegal crossing of the state border has been initiated against the detainees.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called the incident a provocation, noting that among the members of the crew of Ukrainian ships who violated the border of Russia were two members of the Ukrainian Security Service, who actually supervised this special operation.

Putin stressed that the Russian border guards performed their functions to protect the state border. According to him, provocation in the Black Sea is associated with a low rating of the President of Ukraine on the eve of the elections.
