UN Security Council to meet Friday over North Korea missile launch, report
The Russian delegate to the Security Council, Vasily Nibenzia, that the meeting held to discuss the situation in Iran, does not fall within the powers of the Council stipulated in its charter.

“We are once again witnessing how Washington is exploiting the Security Council platform,” the Russian delegate said at an emergency meeting convened by the United States to discuss the situation in Iran. He said manipulation of the council’s mandate had led to chaos in Libya, Syria and Yemen.

He said that Washington’s goal of the meeting was not to protect the rights of the Iranian people but to undermine the nuclear agreement signed between the major powers and Iran.

He called on Nipinzia, to leave Iran in dealing with its problems, stressing that what is exercised by the Council currently is a waste of the energy of the Council.

Instead of focusing on the situation in Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen and the Horn of Africa, you suggest that we interfere in the internal affairs of another country

The Russian delegate called for a discussion on the Middle East peace process, including the question of Palestine, instead of engaging in destabilization in Iran or any other country.

“The world should pay attention to what is happening on the ground in Iran,” US representative to the UN Security Council Nicky Haley said, adding that the events there are a violation of people’s rights for many years.

The US delegate stressed that Washington can not allow “the steps taken by the Iranian government to silence its people.”

For his part, stressed the French delegate to the United Nations, Francois Delater, the importance of maintaining the nuclear agreement signed between the major powers and Iran, stressing that losing it would be a dangerous step.

He said the international community should maintain close contact with Tehran, stressing that communication with them in particular should be about “foreign interventions.”

The UN’s Assistant Secretary-General, Taye Brooke-Zerihun, said the organization could not confirm or deny the images from Iran, stressing that the Secretariat would follow the situation on the ground and communicate with the Iranian government.

Speaking at the meeting, the Iranian delegate, Ghulam Ali Khoshro, stressed that the Security Council did not discuss the situation in the United States.

Khoshroo confirmed that US President Donald Trump joined the Daesh organization in the region to incite violence, he said.

The UN Security Council announced earlier held a closed-door consultations, at the initiative of Russia, before the current session on the situation in Iran.

According to the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation, the consultations “discussed the American initiative”.
