UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Russia remains open to a serious dialogue on strategic stability, said Dmitry Polyansky, acting permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN.
“For our part, we have been and remain ready for any serious dialogue aimed at ensuring strategic stability and security,” Polyansky said at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
Bearing in mind the termination of the INF Treaty, he noted that if the situation depended only on Russia, then “the world would never have been at the dangerous line that it now has.”
At the same time, the diplomat called on all members of the UN Security Council to join in resolving these issues, since “it is about the survival of mankind.”
On August 2, the Intermediate-Range Missile Treaty terminated. At the beginning of this year, Washington announced a unilateral withdrawal from this agreement, accusing Russia of its long-term violation. Moscow rejects all charges.
In early July, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law to suspend the treaty. Russia has repeatedly stated that it fully complies with the INF Treaty. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that Moscow has very serious questions for Washington regarding the implementation of the treaty by the Americans themselves. According to him, the US allegations of violation of the INF Treaty are unfounded.
