Russia and China are critical of the new US nuclear doctrine

UNITED STATES – Russia has criticized the new American nuclear doctrine, and has confirmed that it is disappointing. While China urged the United States to abandon the “cold war mentality” and not misunderstand its military buildup after Washington published a document Friday that outlines its plan to strengthen its nuclear deterrent capability.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the accusations against Russia – including the new nuclear doctrine of the United States – have nothing to do with reality.

The department called on Washington to jointly explore serious solutions to the growing problems of maintaining strategic stability.

In Beijing, the Department of Defense said in a statement on Sunday that “peace and development are irreversible global trends, and the United States, which has the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, should take the initiative rather than oppose it.”

“We hope that the United States will abandon the Cold War mentality, seriously carry out its own disarmament responsibility, understand China’s strategic intentions properly, and objectively look at China’s national defense and military buildup,” it said in a statement on its website.

The US military has put China and Russia at the center of a new national defense strategy unveiled earlier this month, calling the two countries “reactionary forces.”

US officials say their country will deter Russia from using nuclear weapons by strengthening its nuclear capability with low destructive power.

A review of US nuclear policy has angered Moscow, which has seen the document as confrontational, raising fears that the danger of misunderstanding between the two countries could increase.
