The Republican leader in the US Senate, Mitch McConnell, blamed the democrats for closing down federal agencies that were left without funding due to the failure of the bill, but added that he was ready for new talks in order to find a way out of the current situation.
Federal agencies of the US remained without funding at midnight local time, after the Senate was unable to adopt the relevant bill.
He was torpedoed by Democrats who insisted on including in the interim budget measures on immigration, against which the Republicans and the White House acted.
“What we saw now is the cynical decision of the Senate Democrats to forget about millions of Americans for the sake of irresponsible political gains.” Closure of departments could be prevented by 100%, now this is inevitable, and all because the Democrats spoke out against the bill about financing, in which there is nothing that would be unacceptable for them,” McConnell said.
The senator added that, despite everything, he is ready for negotiations with the democrats in order to find a solution to the current situation. He stressed that he will seek to conduct a vote on the new bill, which will extend the interim financing of government departments until February 8.
