Putin, Trump agreed to continue the fight against Islamic State in Syria

Presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, confirmed their determination to defeat the Islamic State group in Syria, the joint statement of the leaders of the two countries says, Ria reports.

They also expressed their commitment to “sovereignty, independence, unity, territorial integrity and secular character of Syria” in accordance with the UN Security Council resolution 2254.

The presidents agreed that the Syrian conflict had no military solution, and confirmed that its final settlement should be found within the framework of the the Geneva process.

These steps include “full implementation of the resolution, including constitutional reform and free and fair elections under UN supervision, in compliance with the highest international standards, transparency and accountability, in giving all the Syrians, including members of the diaspora, the right to participate,” statement.
