Presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the settlement of the Middle East crisis in the light of the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The telephone conversation took place on the initiative of Ankara.
Politicians expressed serious concern about the decision of the administration of Donald Trump. Putin and Erdogan do not rule out that such a move could cross out the prospects of the Middle East peace process.
“The efforts of the international community should be aimed at facilitating the resumption of the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations in order to find a compromise solution to all problems, including the status of Jerusalem,” the Kremlin press service said.
Moscow and Ankara reaffirmed their commitment to the achievement of a just and viable solution to the Middle East crisis, which should be based on the resolutions of the UN Security Council.
In turn, Erdogan informed the Russian leader about the convening of an emergency summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation devoted to this topic. The event will be held on December 13 in Istanbul.
