Pope Francis calls for early resolution of the crisis in Venezuela

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Pope Francis called for the early resolution of the crisis in Venezuela for the benefit of this Latin American country and the entire region.

“Once again, I want to express my closeness to the beloved Venezuelan people, who were seriously affected by the ongoing crisis. Let the Lord be inspired and motivated by the parties concerned so that they can come to an agreement as soon as possible that will put an end to the suffering of the people” said the pontiff, addressing the traditional Sunday sermon to believers in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican.

Earlier, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the resumption of dialogue with the support of the Government of Norway, this time on the island of Barbados, July 8.

According to him, six points have already been established, which will be discussed, they concern all spheres of the country’s life – economy, politics, culture, social sphere. Maduro himself is optimistic.

In Venezuela, on January 21, mass protests began against President Maduro shortly after he was sworn in. The head of the National Assembly, controlled by the opposition, Juan Guaido illegally proclaimed himself the interim head of state. A number of Western countries, led by the United States, have declared its recognition.

Maduro called Guaido a puppet of the United States. Russia, China, Turkey and a number of other countries supported Maduro as a legitimate president. Moscow called the “presidential status” of the Guaido non-existent.
