Police riot in Venezuela: dozens dead

UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — As a result of the riots that broke out in a police cell in the region of Acarigua in north-western Venezuela, at least 29 prisoners died, 19 law enforcement officers were injured of varying degrees of severity.

For the suppression of the riot involved the police units and the National Directorate for Combating Extortion and Abduction. Information about whether it was possible to take control of the situation in the temporary detention center, while not received.

This is not the first case of mass death of prisoners in penitentiary establishments of Venezuela. Thus, in March 2018, at least 68 people died in a fire in a police detention facility in the city of Valencia; in August 2017, when a riot was suppressed in a police detention facility in the city of Puerto Ayacucho, at least 37 people were killed.
