Police defused a man who tried to attack near the cathedral of Notre Dame, passed on Tuesday, local media reported. The attacker was wounded.

According to French television, a man attacked a police officer near the cathedral and the back opened fire. According to BFM TV, the attacker tried to hit a policeman with a hammer.

Subsequently, to the scene arrived more police squads. Quarter on whose territory the incident occurred, cordoned off. The police checked was whether the attacker accomplice.

Police in Paris are responding to an incident at Notre-Dame Cathedral Tuesday afternoon where an individual reportedly attacked an officer with a hammer.

Paris police said a “number of police” are at the square in front of the cathedral. They urged people to avoid the area.

Initial reports said a person allegedly assaulted an officer with a hammer, BMFTV said. The officer fired his gun, striking the attacker.

People on social media reported that they were “trapped” in the cathedral for an incident outside.
