People with a career of “self-realization” say that they “open their careers” by moving horizontally and mastering new functions and roles, supplementing their competences with new, related skills and applying their experience from different angles. If you look at the resume of a career-type “diversity” person, you might think that there is no career, because you will see an incredible bouquet of the most diverse functions, roles, industries and companies that are not connected at all.
Each of these types of careers has its advantages, carries a certain set of properties and character traits. “Experts” are focused on high quality, “power” are happy to compete for market share and are eager for efficiency. “Self-realization” celebrates teamwork and personal development, and “diversity” is incredibly flexible and customer-oriented. It is these factors that the employer associates with the competencies that representatives of each type are likely to demonstrate vividly in their work.
Of course, this description of the concept is a simplification, but everyone should think about how the goal that you are now implementing has appeared. Was this event from your life, when, doing something, you realized that it is this business you want to devote to yourself. Ask yourself a question, but what is most important for you? Look closely at tasks and projects that may have required a lot of time and effort, but in which you have achieved success. At what moments in your professional life did you feel that you were passionate about going to some new level: what was the context, what factors contributed to it, which company and the environment.
For example, if you were inspired by the recognition of the professional community, fellow experts and the ability to hone skills for a long time, improve your skills, plunging into the details of the topic, your type is an “expert”. It is important for you to choose the environment and culture, where there will be something to talk about with colleagues. Companies that are oriented to high quality and long-term development will be suitable for you, important factors will also be a permanent contract, stability and transparency of labor remuneration.
If the soul sang, when it was necessary to prevail, fight, achieve, and also with the appearance of different attributes of promotion – a personal office, access to meetings only for the elected ones, well, you preferred to recognize achievements in the form of financial equivalent, your type of career is “power “.
