UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The US Department of Defense announced that the “Syrian Democratic Forces” (SDF, the Kurdish majority), began dismantling its fortifications in the “safe area” in northern Syria, which Ankara and Washington agreed to establish.
“Within 24 hours of a telephone conversation between the US Secretary of Defense and his Turkish counterpart on security in northeastern Syria, the SDF dismantled its fortifications,” a statement released by the US Central Command said on its Twitter account on Friday. According to the statement, “SDF” proved its commitment to support the implementation of the security mechanism.

According to the Pentagon, US Defense Secretary Mark Esper and Turkish Secretary of State Hulusi Akar said during their phone call Thursday that the mechanism agreed upon between Turkey and the United States would secure the border between Syria and Turkey and “reduce the number of disagreements”. Between the two parties is contrary to mutual interests.
Damascus categorically rejected the US-Turkish agreement as a violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a violation of international law.
