The Pentagon said on Wednesday it was not creating a new army or a regular border guard force in Syria after Turkey reacted angrily to US plans to train fighters, including Syrian Kurds, for internal security.
“The United States continues to train local security forces in Syria,” the Pentagon said in a statement. The training aims to improve security for IDPs returning to their devastated areas. ”
“This is also necessary so that they do not re-emerge in liberated areas that are not under government control. This is not a new army or a regular border guard force.”
