UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Pentagon announced on Friday an additional $ 1.5 billion to build part of the border wall that President Donald Trump is seeking to build on the border with Mexico to stem the flow of illegal immigrants after a $ 1 billion move for the same purpose last March.

US Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan agreed to replace 78 miles (125 km) of the border fence at the southern border in Arizona and Texas, the defense ministry said in a statement.

“Funding has been deducted from various confiscations, including cost savings and revised requirements,” spokesman Tom Croson said.

He added that “this transfer of funds will not affect the military readiness or the allocations of service elements.”

Frustrated by Congress’s refusal to provide the budget it wants to build a border wall, President Trump announced in February a national emergency on the border.

In March, Shanahan agreed to allocate $ 1 billion to build a 92-kilometer high fence and a 5.5-meter height, improve roads and install lighting.

The Pentagon has come under pressure to show that it is not reallocating funds from combat missions or other vital actions.

Some of the funds were saved from unspent funds in Afghanistan, Shanahan said.

“We have found ways to do so without affecting the readiness,” he said. “I will not allocate any additional funds to the border wall.”

Trump made border security an important issue at home, saying he would remain at the center of his agenda in his bid to win a second term in the 2020 election.
