Riots during the protests in Iran led to the death of 12 people, Iranian state television reported on Monday.
According to him, 10 people were killed in a clash with security forces late Sunday night. Two more parted with life on Saturday.
In addition, Iranian official media reports that security forces have repelled several attempts by demonstrators to take control of police stations and military bases. However, according to media reports, these demonstrators were armed.
Demonstrations began last week. Participants protest against a difficult economic situation, as well as against the country’s leadership. Iranian President Hasan Ruhani called on fellow citizens to calm down.
IRNA agency quotes Alaeddin Boruzherdi, head of the Iranian Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security, on Monday as saying that the protests are partly provoked by the enemies of the Islamic revolution abroad. “A lot of recent demonstrations are the result of work carried out by elements based abroad who oppose the Islamic Revolution,” he said.
According to Boruzherdi, it is for this reason that the riots quickly spread across the country.
Earlier, the Associated Press agency referring to the Iranian television reported that the Iranian authorities blocked access to the Instagram application and the Telegram messenger on the background of protest actions of the population.
