UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The death toll as a result of hostilities in the vicinity of Tripoli in Libya has reached 432 people, another 2,069 people were injured, according to a statement by the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Since the beginning of the armed conflict in Tripoli, 432 people were killed, 2,069 people were injured, more than 50,000 were forced to leave their homes,” the Libyan office of WHO reported on Twitter.

Earlier it was reported that the deaths of the fighting more than 370 people.

The commander of the Libyan National Army, General Khalifa Haftar, on April 4 ordered his forces to launch an offensive on Tripoli to “liberate themselves from terrorists.” The units of the army of Haftar established control over the cities of Garyan and Surman to the south of the Libyan capital. Armed formations loyal to the government in Tripoli announced the start of Operation Vulcan of Wrath against Haftar’s forces.

After the overthrow and murder of the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya virtually ceased to function as a single state. Now dual power reigns in the country. The parliament elected by the people sits in the east, and in the west, in the capital Tripoli, the government of national consensus headed by Fayez Sarraj rules with the support of the UN and the European Union. The authorities in the eastern part of the country operate independently of Tripoli and cooperate with the Libyan National Army.
