Note: The cost of US space power is $13 billion in the first 5 years

UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) – The US Air Force is estimating the initial costs of the proposed space force, a new branch of the military backed by President Donald Trump, by about $ 13 billion over the first five years, according to a Pentagon memo seen by Reuters.

The Air Force, the US military space division, drafted the memo on Sept. 14 to outline the proposal to create an “organization focused on the power of lethalism that would deploy space superiority capabilities.”

The Trump administration announced in August an ambitious plan to launch the force to become the sixth branch of the military by 2020. The plan will require congressional approval.

Heather Wilson, an Air Force official and former Congressman for New Mexico, drafted the Pentagon memo.

The memo estimates the cost of establishing a space force of more than $ 3 billion in the first 12 months, plus another $ 10 billion that will be required over the next four years. The US Air Force estimates that more than 13,000 people will manage the new space force.
