North Korea test fired a ballistic missile

North Korea has test fired a ballistic missile, the Yonhap News Agency reports, citing South Korean military sources.

The test had been expected for some time, with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un reportedly having announced a test in his New Year’s Eve address to the nation.

It was also suggested that the country might test an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) this month to mark former leader Kim Jon-il’s birthday.

BBC told, Pyongyang has conducted a number of nuclear tests in the past year.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said in January that the country was close to testing long-range missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads.

North Korea’s repeated missile and nuclear tests and aggressive statements continue to alarm and anger the region.
