North Korea intends to send its national team to the Winter Olympic Games in South Korean Pyeongchang. This was stated by the PRC leader Kim Jong Un during the New Year’s address to the nation on the Central Television of the Republic.
“We intend to send our team,” Kim Jong-un said, stressing the need to improve relations with South Korea.
Pyongyang missed the deadline for submitting an application for participation in the Games, but until mid-January, it still has the opportunity to send its team to the Olympics.
The international community has repeatedly expressed concern about the security situation at the Games in Pyeongchang due to the worsening situation on the Korean peninsula.
t was reported that the US does not intend to abandon military exercises in South Korea because of the Olympic Games.
At the same time, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea previously stated that it regards any exercises of the United States and South Korea on the peninsula as an act of aggression and promised to respond to them appropriately, including that it did not exclude the use of missile strikes on military positions.
