“A man in police uniform believed to belong to an armed group fired at police at a checkpoint outside the city of Lashar Jah, capital of Helmand province, early this morning, killing nine people,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
A spokesman for Helmand province’s governor Omar Zawak confirmed the incident without providing information on the casualties, saying an investigation had been launched.
