Nigerian government forces succeeded in liberating Canadians and Americans, who were kidnapped in an ambush on a road north of Nigeria.
“The four editors are all in good health, and the American and Canadian embassies received their release after 5:00 am (4:00 GMT),” Kaduna state spokesman Mukhtar Aliyu told AFP.
“The authorities have arrested a person suspected of involvement in the kidnapping of Western nationals,” he said, adding that “the process of liberation was made possible by police efforts that deployed special units to search for them in the forests surrounding the whereabouts of the kidnappers.”
“I can not now confirm whether there were negotiations or ransom,” he said, citing “undisclosed information”.
The editors were kidnapped while on their way to the federal capital Abuja on a business trip, near the state of Kaduna, known for kidnapping gangs.
