New sanctions on Russia ‘in the near future’ – US official

Russians hold their national flag next to a bronze statue of a soldier in Moscow on Aug. 22, 2016, during celebrations of the National Flag Day. U.S. intelligence agencies say Russia is engaged in a widespread disinformation campaign that targets the U.S. and many other countries.
RUSSIA – US to impose sanctions on Russia ‘in the near future,’ says Treasury Secretary on Tuesday. The US Treasury will prepare new sanctions against Russia as quickly as possible, anti-Russian measures can be announced within a month, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said.

“I want to be careful, but in the near future you will see sanctions … I want to be careful and I can not promise you that it will be for a month, but I assure you that we will do it as soon as we can, within a few months you will see – maybe a month,” RIA quotes Munchin’s statement at a hearing in the Senate Banking Committee.

The Minister of Finance said that the US and Russia “have problems” that Washington intends to solve and resolve through sanctions. He confirmed that new sanctions against the Russian Federation would be introduced in connection with the “Kremlin report” presented earlier.

Recall that on the night of January 30 in the United States was presented the so-called “Kremlin report” , which identifies more than 200 names of Russian citizens, against whom new sanctions can be introduced.

On this document, on Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Premier Dmitry Medvedev, State Duma members and Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko, who promised Russia’s response to new sanctions, spoke out.
