UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Mars rover Curiosity discovered an unknown object on the surface of the red planet, resembling a piece of native metal, reports a blog on the official website of NASA, on the mission Curiosity.

An unknown brilliant object, already named after Little Colonsay in honor of the eponymous island in the north of Scotland , was spotted on one of the recent images taken by the Mars rover Curiosity.

“One of the samples we are trying to identify better is Little Colonsay . The planning team assumes that it could be a meteorite, because this object is brilliant,” says Dr. Susanne Schwenzer.

Still, the researcher continues, we must not trust appearances, so that to determine the origin of the object, it is essential to conduct the appropriate chemical analysis.

The astronaut Curiosity has resumed its work of collecting soil samples after a dust storm on Mars since May and was able to send on Earth photos of the surface of the red planet following this incredible phenomenon.

Curiosity is currently exploring the Vera Rubin Ridge which has puzzled scientists since its discovery. Indeed, the color and texture of the region vary considerably and in a way never seen before.
