French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said that the country’s economy is likely to surpass the expectations of the government.
After gross domestic product growth of about 2% in 2017 – for the first time since 2011 – Le Mair said in his speech at the Ministry of Finance that France should surpass the forecasts of economic growth by 1.7% in 2018.
He noted that the business confidence is at the highest level in 10 years, and the growth of investment in business stimulates the creation of jobs.
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker expects that France will officially begin comply with budget rules for the euro zone in 2018
Speaking to the French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe in Brussels, Juncker said that “France will no doubt , will succeed in correcting its deficit “so that it falls below the 3% level set in the EU rules.
For the country, this means an end to the “excessive budget deficit procedure.”
“France … will come out of this uncomfortable situation during the [budget] of 2018,” said the head of the European Commission.
