UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) – Microsoft has announced the imminent end of support for the “classic” Skype Classic (7.0). With the version of the service for desktops, the Windows developer will say goodbye on November 1, for smartphones and tablets – on November 15. “And although you will be able to use the old versions for some time, we recommend that you upgrade today to avoid failures,” said Microsoft.
The situation around the future of Skype has been uncertain for the last couple of years. In 2017, the company released a large-scale update of the application – the largest since the appearance of video calls in 2006. In version 8.0, they brought a bright design, built-in viewing of videos on YouTube and gifs, stickers and other trendy functions, as well as the ability to leave emoticons like Facebook on the “reaction” messages and mention friends using the @ sign.
Users, however, have criticized the novelty for the “youth” redesign, as well as mindlessly borrowing features from Instagram and Snapchat. As a result, the company, after listening to the “customer reviews”, decided to postpone the closure of Skype 7.0, promised to add to Skype 8.0 “all the features you asked for”, and took on the correction of errors.
Over the past few months, Microsoft has polished the design, simplified the interface on PCs and mobile devices , ridding it of cumbersome elements, added call recording , returned the classic design theme, and removed “stories” that “did not find a response from most users.” Having spent on improving Skype 8.0 for more than a year, the company decided to finally do away with the old version.
