The meteorite that fell in the US state of Michigan caused an earthquake of magnitude 2.0, the Weather Network reported on Wednesday.
The fall of the cosmic body was accompanied by a bright flash in the sky, as well as a loud pop.
Earlier, the US National Meteorological Service confirmed that the meteorite fell near the city of New Haven, located about 65 km from Detroit.
“The US Meteorological Service confirms that the outbreak and cotton were not thunder and lightning, but probably the result of a meteorite fall,” the report said on Twitter reported from the Meteorological Office in Detroit.
According to the American Society for the Study of Meteorites, residents of six American states, including Michigan and Ohio, as well as some residents of Canada, could have witnessed the natural phenomenon.
NASA, in turn, reported that it is studying a meteorite that fell in Michigan. The space agency called this phenomenon a rare and “huge event” for the state.
