Merkel accused Russia of the collapse of the INF Treaty

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — German Chancellor Angela Merkel blamed Russia for the termination of the agreement on the deployment of medium and short-range missiles.

At a press conference on Wednesday, August 14, with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, the head of the German government said that Russia allegedly “provably violated the INF Treaty.”

“I am very sorry that Russia provably violated and thereby provided an excuse for terminating the treaty. As a result, part of the arms limitation system in Europe and around the world was lost.”

According to Merkel, Germany, together with NATO, allegedly “will make efforts to further limit arms in the coming years.” VOP noted that the President of the United States announced a unilateral withdrawal from the INF Treaty in February 2019.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in the framework of the Address to the Federal Assembly, warned of the consequences of the Trump administration’s actions to terminate the agreement signed between the USA and the USSR in 1987, and also listed long-standing examples of violation of the agreement by the United States in the form of unmanned aerial vehicles deployment, construction of infrastructure facilities ” Aegis Ashore “(Aegis Ashore) in Poland and Romania.

However, NATO heads of state, who, according to Angela Merkel, plan to “make efforts to further limit arms in the coming years,” chose not to comment on US actions to violate the INF Treaty.
