UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that the European Union needed a clear vision over the next 30 days regarding Brexit.
In a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Macron said Thursday in front of the Elysée Palace in Paris that his country is focusing during the negotiations on “Brexit” on the stability in Ireland and the integrity of the European common market.
For his part, Johnson, the need to leave his country from the European Union by October 31 next, and the need to protect the interests of the British people and companies.
He continued: “We want to get out of the European Union by the deadline in all cases through agreement or without agreement.”
Johnson stressed the importance of the relationship of cooperation with France in many areas, including the security field, pointing out that his country “cooperate and coordinate with France to maintain security in the African coast and cooperate with them in other areas such as Syria.”
Johnson assured the French president that “the United Kingdom will not put checkpoints on its borders, including the Irish border.”
He added: “I am confident that President Macron will defend and protect British citizens in France, as we will do with the French citizens in Britain.”
Johnson began a European tour ahead of the G7 summit, starting with a visit to Berlin for talks with Merkel and Thursday to Paris for talks with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The G7 summit is scheduled for August 24-26 in Biarritz, southwestern France.
