Life imprisonment for a nurse in Germany killed 85 patients

UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — A former life nurse was jailed on Thursday after being convicted of killing 85 of his patients in the worst such murder in post-war Germany.

The court in Oldenburg has learned that the nurse, Nils Hoegel, was injected with lethal drugs and then plays the hero by pretending to be trying to save them.

“It is impossible to understand your crimes,” Judge Sebastian Bührmann told the Der Spiegel magazine. The human mind finds it difficult to comprehend the enormity of these crimes.”

Huegel issued a statement in court on Wednesday apologizing to relatives of the victims and asking them to forgive.

He was charged with killing 100 people between 2000 and 2005, confessed to killing 43 of them and denied killing the rest. A court spokeswoman said he was acquitted of 15 counts.

Hoyle was already convicted in two murders and sentenced in 2015.

The court prevented him from practicing life-long nursing.

According to German law, he could be released after 15 years, but in some cases he would be sentenced to life imprisonment.
