UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The representative of the Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Marshal Khalifa Haftar Ahmed Al-Mismari, confirmed that the fighter belonging to LNA was shot down in southeastern Libya, allegedly as a result of rocket debris falling into it.

“We lost one of our MiG-21 fighters after the pilot lost control of the aircraft. Perhaps the plane was hit by a rocket, but there was no direct hit,” said al-Mismari during a press conference in Benghazi.

Earlier, a representative of the National Accord (PNS) government troops, Mohammed Kanun, told RIA that PNC Libyan Fayez Sarraj forces shot down a Libyan National Army (LNA) plane of Marshal Khalifa Haftar in Tripoli, which attacked their troops.

Since April 4, the Libyan National Army, led by Marshal Khalifa Haftar, has launched an offensive against Tripoli, where the government of national accord is located. A week ago, she began the air part of a military operation against Tripoli.

Aircraft of the Libyan National Army attacked the only airport in the Libyan capital Tripoli, as a result of which all flights were canceled. However, later the airport partially resumed work.

After the overthrow and murder of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, a political crisis began in Libya. Now dual power reigns in the country.

The parliament elected by the people sits in the east, and in the west, in the capital Tripoli, the government of national consensus headed by Fayez Sarraj rules with the support of the UN and the European Union.

The authorities of the eastern part of the country operate independently of Tripoli and cooperate with the LNA, which is waging a protracted war with the militants.

The UN proposes to hold a general election in Libya in the spring of 2019, the results of which should lead to the formation of legitimate and universally recognized authorities.
