At least 20 people were victims of clashes in Tripoli between various militia groups, loyal to the government of national unity of Libya, recognized by the international community, on Monday, the agency AP reported.

Among the dead there are civilians. The Libyan Ministry of Health also reported 63 wounded.

According to the AP, the clashes led to the termination of the work of the international airport of Mitiga.

With reference to local authorities, the agency notes that the conflict erupted after one of the local commanders wanted to release a number of persons suspected of having links with the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda factions from a prison that is located near airport.

However, the fighters of the field commander were resisted by guards from the formation of the “Special Forces of Deterrence”.

Later, a representative of the forces guarding the prison reported that the situation was under control, and some of the attackers had been arrested. He noted that the guard lost four people killed.

According to the information of the “Special Forces of Deterrence,” there are about 2.5 thousand prisoners in this prison.
