Kremlin welcomed the capture of Khan Sheikhun by the Syrian army

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Kremlin welcomes the capture of Khan Sheikhun by the Syrian army, consider it a local victory over terrorism, said spokesman for the Russian President Dmitry Peskov.

A Syrian field source on Thursday told RIA that the government army of the SAR occupied Khan Sheikhun, now the city is being cleared and cleared. The RIA correspondent was the first foreign media representative to visit the liberated Khan Sheikhun in Idlib province, which for many years remained the stronghold of terrorists.

“From the very beginning, it was said that the fight against terrorists, with terrorist groups will continue in all zones absolutely, especially with those terrorists who continue to sorties against the Syrian armed forces, including against the Russian base of Khmeimim. Therefore, of course, such victories, local victories or more significant victories over such groups can only be welcomed,” said Peskov, answering the question of how the Kremlin estimates the capture of Khan Sheikhun.

After negotiations on Syria in Nur Sultan on August 2 in Idlib, a “ceasefire regime” entered into force. The command of the Armed Forces of the SAR said it would stop the fighting provided that Turkey fulfills its obligations under the Russian-Turkish agreement reached in September 2018 in Sochi.

The main point was the withdrawal of heavy and medium weapons of militants 20 kilometers from the demilitarized zone in Idlib.

Three days later, on August 5, the army resumed the operation due to failure to comply with conditions on the part of the gangs, which, taking advantage of the lull, made attempts to attack the positions of the Syrian army in the north of Hama province and repeatedly opened fire on residential settlements in that area.
