UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Kremlin said on Friday it still hoped US President Donald Trump’s invitation to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights would remain a “call” and not become an official declaration.
“It’s just an invitation so far,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Piskov told a news conference. Let’s hope it stays that way.”
He also said such calls threatened to seriously destabilize the Middle East and undermine efforts to reach a peaceful settlement in the region.
Trump wrote on Twitter on Thursday that it was time to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which occupied the bulk of it in the 1967 Middle East war.
