Korea crisis should be defused through dialogue and diplomacy, Russia’s UN envoy

The ongoing crisis on the Korean Peninsula should be resolved through an urgent “political and diplomatic solution,” Russia’s Permanent representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia told reporters Friday following a closed meeting of the UN Security Council.

While condemning North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs, Nebenzia urged all parties to abstain from hostile moves, warning that the ongoing “tests [and] launches are mutual threats in fact.”

The UNSC has condemned Pyongyang’s recent nuclear and missile tests, urging the country to undertake steps toward denuclearization, according to the press statement.

“The Security Council stressed that these (North Korea) actions are not just a threat to the region, but to all UN member states,” the statement reads.
