Juncker: Brexit will no longer be delayed

UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) —  Brexit will not receive another postponement of London, even if the British Parliament does not approve an agreement on conditions for leaving the EU before April 12, said European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, speaking Wednesday at the European Parliament.

“April 12 is the deadline for approval by the House of Commons of the agreement on withdrawal. If this does not happen by this time, then there will no longer be a short delay,” he said.

Juncker noted the increasing likelihood of a “tough” Brexit, under which the UK would leave the block without an agreement.

“The scenario without a deal at midnight on April 12 is now very likely. This is not the outcome that I want. But this is the outcome, to which, I am convinced, the European Union is ready,” added the head of the EC.

At the same time, Jean-Claude Juncker stressed that if the deal is approved nevertheless, Brussels will be able to postpone the “hour X” to May 22.

“If the UK is able to approve the agreement by April 12, then in this case the European Union will have to agree to the extension until May 22,” he explained.

On March 29, the Brexit agreement, developed by British Prime Minister Theresa May and EU leaders, was rejected for the third time by members of the House of Commons. As a result, the condition of Brussels, the British Parliament has not been met. The EU agreed to postpone Brexit until May 22, if the House of Commons last week approved the deal.

Now, according to the EU’s plan, London should leave the block by April 12 without a deal if it does not offer the community its Brexit alternative.
