Antonella Tremolizzo, deputy mayor of Martano, center, rises her hands in front of police officers as activists try to enter the construction site of a gas pipeline that requires the removal of more than 200 olive trees in Meledugno, southern Italy, Tuesday, March 28, 2017.

The protesters tried to stop the removal of the olive trees by TAP (Trans Adriatic Pipeline), an international company with shares from several European countries that had promised to minimize environmental impact by later replanting in the same location the 231 olive trees which need to be removed.
