UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The Israeli army launched raids on targets of Hamas in Gaza early on Sunday in response to the launch of a rocket from the Gaza Strip.
“Fighter planes bombed several military targets in the Hamas compound in the northern Gaza Strip, in addition to two Hamas naval units,” the army said in a statement.
He added that the strikes came in response to the launch of a rocket from Gaza late on Saturday, “in addition to continuing violence from the Gaza Strip towards Israel.”
The rocket landed in a field in the Israeli Eshkol area without causing damage or injuries.
Palestinians in Gaza are firing balloons carrying explosive materials towards Israeli territory and escalating their attempts to destroy the border fence between Israel and the Gaza Strip more than 10 days ago, offsetting an Israeli response.
The Israeli army said on Saturday it had launched several strikes on Hamas positions in Gaza in retaliation for a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip the night before.
At least 253 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli gunfire since 2018, most of them in shooting during weekly demonstrations on the border, others with Israeli tank shells or raids in response to violence from Gaza.
Two Israeli soldiers were killed in the same period.
Israel and Hamas, which has been in control of the besieged enclave for more than a decade, have fought three wars since 2008.
