UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — An Israeli court on Sunday ordered the closure of the Bab al-Rahma building inside the Al-Aqsa mosque in occupied Jerusalem after weeks of tension between the Israeli authorities and the Islamic Waqf .
“The building in Bab al-Rahma, known as the Golden Gate, in the compound of the Al-Aqsa Mosque should remain closed as long as the matter remains in the hands of the judiciary,” the court said in a statement.
The Israeli court granted the Waqf Department for 60 days to respond to this decision.
Jordan is responsible for Islamic religious sites in East Jerusalem.
Al-Aqsa Mosque is located in the Old City of East Jerusalem, which Israel occupied in 1967 and annexed since then.
The Al-Aqsa Mosque is a religious symbol and Muslims can visit it at any time. Jews call the site Temple Mount and can reach it at certain times, but they can not pray there.
Palestinian youths broke the doors of the door of mercy on Friday and called on worshipers to pray in the building.
