Israel confiscates $ 3.6 million in Palestinian funds for “collaborators”

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — Israeli authorities have transferred 12.7 million shekels ($ 3.6 million) in withheld Palestinian tax funds to suspects in dealing with Tel Aviv, the Israeli daily Maariv reported on Thursday.

“The confiscation of the said amount comes on the basis of a judicial decision issued by the Israeli District Court in Jerusalem recently, and was implemented in the past days.”

She explained that the decision came after Palestinians with Israeli citizenship brought cases against the Palestinian Authority on the pretext that the security services to “arrest, interrogate and torture them on suspicion of cooperation with the Israeli security services.”

“The Palestinian Authority violated agreements with Israel and detained Israelis living in the West Bank,” the court ruling said. According to the newspaper.

The court added that the arrest of the Israelis did not fall within the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority.

According to the Israeli judicial decision, the confiscated Palestinian funds will be distributed to the plaintiffs against the Palestinian Authority within days, according to “Maariv.”

At the end of each month, Israel transfers the tax money collected by its finance ministry staff on goods imported into the Palestinian territories, with an average monthly fee of 680 to 700 million shekels ($ 186-192 million).

On February 17, Israel decided to deduct about $ 139 million (annually) in tax revenues in a punitive measure to allocate part of the revenues to pay salaries to detainees and families of martyrs.

Subsequently, the Palestinian government announced its refusal to receive withheld tax funds.
