IRAQ – The Iraqi government and the World Bank signed two projects worth $ 510 million on Wednesday aimed at improving Iraqis’ living conditions, increasing water distribution and creating jobs.
The two projects were signed in the framework of the International Conference on Iraq Reconstruction, which ends Wednesday in Kuwait, the World Bank said in a statement from its headquarters in Washington.
The two projects will be added to a $ 750 million World Bank-financed development program.
The World Bank’s funding in Iraq has risen to 4.7 billion dollars from 600 million dollars four years ago.
In addition, the bank explained that these funds “will provide immediate support for the rehabilitation of the education sector and health services and reconstruction of roads and bridges and the restoration of electricity networks and water systems.”
On the third and final day of the Iraq reconstruction conference, pledges of loans, loans and investments to help rebuild the country beyond three years of devastating war with Islamic extremists totaled 25 billion dollars.
Baghdad is waiting for much of the international community to face the huge reconstruction workshop, estimated at $ 88 billion.
