Representatives of Iran’s reformist movements condemned violence and accused the US of inciting riots.
“No doubt the Iranian people face difficulties in their daily lives, but the events of recent days have shown that opportunists and troublemakers use speeches to create problems,” the statement released on Tuesday by the Association of Religious Warriors led by a reformist, former President of the Islamic Republic of Mohammad Khatami.
“Iran’s enemies, led by the US and its agents, inspire troublemakers to take violent actions,” the statement said.
Previously, Iranian television reported that from the beginning of the riots that arose six days ago because of the people’s discontent with the rise in prices, in some cities of Iran, at least 20 people were killed. As reported on Tuesday, at least 450 people were detained in Tehran in connection with the unrest.
Meanwhile, the day before, US President Donald Trump said in his tweet that he did not consider Iran a successful country and suggested that it was time for change . The next day, Trump wrote in the social network that the United States watch over the situation in Iran.
In response, the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday condemned the US president’s position on the situation in the country, urging him to abandon the improper interventionist posts on his Twitter account.
