The Iranian military destroyer Damavand collided with barricades at a port in the Caspian Sea, the Tasnim news agency reported on Monday, adding that two crew members were still missing.

The agency quoted army spokesman General Shaheen Taqi Khani as saying there was ongoing search to find the two missing soldiers in the incident, which occurred on 10 of this month.

Taqi Khani explained that the accident was caused by strong winds and a sea storm.

Contrary to initial reports of minor damage to the destroyer, the assessment teams found that the vehicle was badly damaged and needed a complete repair.

The Damavand crashed on Wednesday with storm barriers as it docked at a port in Iran’s northern province of Jilan in a stormy climate.

The 100-meter-long destroyer, weighing more than 1,300 tons, officially joined the North Sea Fleet in the Caspian Sea in March 2016.
