Iran sentences several elements of CIA “spy network” to death (PHOTOS)

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (VOP TODAY NEWS) — 17 Iranians were arrested in Iran as part of the dismantling of a CIA “spy ring”, and some of them were sentenced to death, the Iranian authorities announced on July 22.

The Iranian authorities have arrested 17 spies working for the CIA and sentenced some of them to death, the Iranian media reported.

“Those who deliberately betrayed their country have been brought to justice. Some have been sentenced to death and others to long prison terms, “the counterintelligence chief at the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence, whose identity has not been revealed, told the press.

In a statement read on television, the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and National Security announced that the 17 spies had been arrested during the Iranian year that ended in March 2019.

The Tasnim news agency relayed footage showing, according to her, CIA agents and people who were in contact with suspected spies.

– Trump reacts –

The US President has described as “totally false” Tehran’s claims that a network of Iranian CIA spies has been dismantled.

“The reports that Iran has arrested CIA spies are totally false. Not an ounce of truth. More lies and propaganda (like their drone that was shot down) put forward by a religious regime that fails miserably and does not know what to do. Their economy is dead and it will get worse,” Donald Trump tweeted.
