UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, said Iran was on the verge of “confrontation with its enemy,” while Donald Trump said he was sure Tehran would “soon talk”.
Iran is on the verge of a “major confrontation with its enemy,” said General Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (GRI) since April 2019, quoted by the Iranian agency Fars News.
“This moment of history is the most decisive of the Islamic revolution because our enemy has entered the field of confrontation with all possible means,” said the general.
GRI commander’s statement comes after US State Department has asked its non-essential diplomatic staff to leave Iraq, referring to secret service information about “imminent” threat posed by Iran on his neighbor. Meanwhile, Germany and the Netherlands, two allies of the United States, have suspended their training programs for Iraqi troops face the rising tensions in the region.
President Trump said he was sure Wednesday that Tehran would “soon talk” with Washington, while denying any “internal quarrel” in his administration about his “policy of firmness in the Middle East.”
“There is no internal conflict. Different opinions are expressed and I make a final decision – the process is very simple […]. I am sure that Iran will soon want to talk,” he wrote on Twitter.
On May 12, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards’ aerospace force, Amir Ali Hajizadeh, said that Iran would strike the United States “at the head” if Washington “moved” against his country. He reacted to the announcements made by the President’s National Security Advisor John Bolton and the Pentagon on the dispatch of a carrier group led by the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, B-52 bombers, ground-based missiles Patriot air and USS Arlington transport ship in the Middle East. According to Bolton, this reinforcement of the United States military presence in the region is called to “send a clear and unequivocal message to the Iranian regime”.
