IRAN – US warships patrolling the Gulf have changed their behavior and now comply with international rules, an Iranian Revolutionary Guard commander said on Monday.
Admiral Ali Azamaii, quoted by the Tasnim news agency, said after comments by US military officials last week that the Iranian army had stopped regular “harassment” of US naval vessels in the Gulf.
The two countries share accusations of ignoring international rules in the region, which is a major trade route for oil transportation.
There have been repeated confrontations in recent years between the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and the US military in the Gulf.
“We see that the Americans ‘behavior has changed,” said Azamai, commander of the Fifth District of the Revolutionary Guards’ Marine Corps. Pay more attention to international rules and avoid getting closer to the territorial waters of Iran. ”
A US naval vessel fired warning shots last July when an Iranian ship approached it to a distance of no more than 140 meters in the first such confrontation after US President Donald Trump took office.
The following month, an unmanned and unmanned Iranian aircraft flew no more than 30 meters from a US naval aircraft preparing to land on an aircraft carrier in the Gulf.
