In India, the process of building six nuclear submarines began, Sun Commander Sunil Lanba announced on Friday. It is noted that the new ships should strengthen the Indian fleet’s capabilities in the context of China’s intensifying military maneuvers in the region.
“The process has begun, and I will focus on this. This is a secret project, “the admiral said on Friday, quoting the Hindustan Times.
As the newspaper notes, the statement was made against the background of the increased presence of the Chinese fleet in the Indo-Pacific region.
Lanba commented on China’s presence in the strategically important port of Gwadar in Pakistan, saying that in the future this could be a security issue for India.
“We will have to monitor this and reduce [the threat],” he said.
Now India has submarines of Russian and Soviet production (the nuclear submarine Nerpa was leased to the country for 10 years, there are several diesel-generating submarines of the Varshavyanka project), as well as submarines of type 209 built in Germany.
