UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — All bells started ringing in a hot Japanese suicide-fighting line at 8 pm on Friday, when work was just starting to get louder, trying to help in a room off Tokyo’s non-main street.

“Is it a problem at work or something else at home?” Asked Mashiko Nakayama, a volunteer at the hotline in her 60s, with a low voice through her headphones.

“Do you feel as if you want to die?”

Experts and volunteers in Japan, a place known for personal restraint, say allowing people to express their inner feelings has helped to reduce suicide by about 40 percent from its peak in 2003. “The fact that I can not talk about My feelings at all became exhausting.

“So once I was able to speak, my psychological state suddenly became much better.” Umm Suway had committed suicide in 1955 when he was a child.

The phone at P-Friends WorldWide Tokyo is seldom shut up, with about 40 volunteers working at four in the one-day shift, which lasts three hours daily from 8 pm to 5.30 am.

“If the phones have stopped ringing for a few minutes, we are concerned that they may have been disrupted,” said Nakayama, who volunteered for 20 years and is now the director. “It is one of dozens of organizations operating hotlines in Japan. These organizations offer tips through messages in the Tokyo subway network, which has seen many suicide attempts such as “Are you depressed? There are people to help you get out of that.”

He said Yoshi Ootsuhata assistant director of assistance line “there are still aspects of a very closed community here is really difficult to talk about personal matters, especially for men who are deeming since antiquity for what they Alvdvdh inside them.”

Most callers in their 30s and 40s were women, 56 percent men and 45 percent men in 2018.
