UNITED STATES (VOP TODAY NEWS) — The International Monetary Fund (IMF) calls on China and the United States to quickly resolve the trade standoff that threatens world trade, representative of the fund Jerry Rice said at a regular briefing for journalists.
“We urge all parties to find a solution that will strengthen the international trading system … We hope for a quick resolution of these discussions. It is obvious that the tension between China and the US is a threat to the global economy. We hope that this tension will be resolved as soon as possible that will satisfy all parties,” he said.
Last Sunday, Trump said that on May 10, he would increase duties on a number of Chinese goods from 10% to 25%, and did not rule out the introduction of duties on other goods.
After statements by the American side in the media there were concerns that the Chinese side might cancel the upcoming trade talks in Washington, but on Tuesday the Chinese Commerce Ministry reported that Vice Premier of the PRC State Council Liu He would visit the United States on May 9-10 to continue consultations despite Trump’s threats.
